PGY-1 Curriculum

Ours is an Advanced neurology program, meaning applicants must apply separately for their PGY-1 year. Applicants may apply for both transitional year and internal medicine-preliminary year slots at Emory. Applicants must apply through the Electronic Residency Application Service (ERAS) of the National Resident Matching Program (NRMP) for these positions, using the unique program numbers associated with the Emory Neurology training program. Separate interviews with these programs are not necessary. Applicants who prefer to train elsewhere for their PGY-1 year may do so.

Per ACGME guidelines, the internship year must include:

  1. eight months in internal medicine OR
  2. six months in internal medicine with a period of at least 2 months' time comprising one or more months of pediatrics, emergency medicine, internal medicine, or family medicine
  3. residents may spend up to four months in neurology during the intern year
